DEMEURE UNIQUE DE LA GRECE ANTIQUE

L a villa édifée de 1902 à 1908 à la demande de Théodore REINACH (1860-1928), musicographe, archéologue, numismate, membre de l'Institut de france, député de la Savoie, est le oevre de l'architecte Emmanuel PONTREMOLI, son confrère de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts, grand prix de Rome 1890. Kerylos, qui désigne l'ALCYON, oiseau de mer, dont la recontre était signe de bon présage, se présente comme un restitution remarquable de la Grèce Antique, unique au monde, image saisissante de la Beauté. Même en Grèce, on ne peut pas trouver un demeure aussi évocatrice de l'existence des anciens Hellènes du siecle Périclès, à travers un cadre domestique et ce qu'il comporte: reproduction d'oevres d'art, mobilier, étoffes, fresques, mosaïques. Tout a été pensé, jusqu'à la dissimulation des éléments du confort moderne: miroirs, électricité, piano...

K erylos, whose name means sea swallow, is an architectural dream come true. In Mediterranean surroundings, similar to the coasts of Greece, the villa stands out against an imposing cliff face, surrounded by a garden washed by the dazzling blue of the waves beneath an azure sky. Erected on the 'Baie des Fourmis' in Beaulieu between 1902 and 1908, the villa is an absolutely unique recreation of the dwellings of ancient Greece, a striking image of refinement and beauty. Even in Greece there is not a museum which evokes the daily life of the ancient Hellenes so eloquently. Theodore REINACH (1860-1928), a scientist, eminent Hellenic scholar, and archeologist, designed this incredible building, which was classed as an historical monument in 1967. Decorated to a rare standard of sumptuousness (objet d'art, noble materials), today it is the jewel in the crown of the Theodore REINACH foundation.
